Turkey’s iron ore imports hike in May

According to data from the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK), in May, Turkey’s iron ore imports totaled about 879,000 tons, a month-on-month decrease of 17.7% but a year-on-year increase of 42.6%. Meanwhile, the import value was US$110 million, decreasing by 21.9% from the previous month but growing by 29.9% compared to the same month a year ago.

In the first five months, Turkey’s iron ore imports amounted to about 448 million tons, hiking by 56% from the corresponding period a year ago. During the same period, the import value soared by 66.9% year on year to US$604 million; of which, the main import source was Brazil, with about 224 million tons. The followings were Ukraine (about 694,000 tons) and South Africa (about 688,000 tons).
