Turkish HRC imports drop in May

According to statistics from the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK), Turkey imported a total of around 177,300 tons of hot-rolled coil (HRC) in May, falling by 37.2% compared to the same month a year ago.

Among them, the imports from Ukraine accounted for the largest proportion, totaling around 57,000 tons, a year-on-year increase of 26.96%. Russia ranked second with nearly 40,000 tons, a year-on-year hike of 44.97%. France ranked third with approximately 27,000 tons, down by 26.92% year on year; followed by South Korea with around 14,000 tons, compared to 100 tons in May 2019.

In the first five months of this year, Turkish HRC imports amounted to roughly 1.2 million tons, declining by 21.2% from the same period a year earlier.
