After leaving the European Union, the UK announced that from January 1, 2021, it will implement its own steel import safeguard measures, which are similar to those already taken by the European Commission.

However, Turkish steel pipe producers don't expect these measures to have a greater negative impact on UK exports, because under the EU quota restrictions, their exports have dropped significantly in the first eight months of this year.

According to statistics from the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK), in the first eight months of 2020, Turkish steel pipe exports to the UK fell to 76,000 tons, which was significantly lower than the 130,000 tons in the same period last year.

Despite pressure from EU import quotas and the outbreak of the epidemic, the EU region was still Turkey’s main steel pipe export destination from January to August.
