The Turkish Steel Producers Association (TCUD) reiterated that the government should adopt various measures to improve competition in the domestic steel industry.

The TCUD explained that the priority should be to limit the import of materials within the scope of the processing system, as well as specific products with sufficient domestic capacity.

From January to April, the import volume of Turkey's steel increased by 11.9% to 5.9 million tons, particularly the import volume climbed by 30.4% to 1.7 billion tons in April.

Support for energy-intensive industries provided by the EU, interest rate stress, continued safeguard measures, and falling demand in the global market all caused a drop in Turkish steel exports.
