US abolishes AD measure on Brazilian carbon steel plates

The US International Trade Commission (USITC) decided to cancel the anti-dumping (AD) measures against Brazilian carbon steel plates.

The Brazilian authority SECEX/MDIC confirmed the decision of the USITC to cancel the 74.52% ad valorem tax imposed by the US on Brazilian steel plates since 1993.

SECEX/MDIC said that Brazil was the only country excluded from the surcharge. Brazilian steelmakers' association Instituto Aço Brasil (IAB) also said that Brazil is promoting negotiations with the US to cancel the quota system for all steel imports from Brazil under Section 232.

Brazil's steel exports in 2022 were up by 8.8% year on year. The main export destination was the US, with a proportion of 49.3%, totaling roughly 5.88 million tons.
