US’ aluminum companies seek to maintain 232 tariffs on Canadian aluminum

It was reported that more than 15 US aluminum companies wrote to US Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer on July 25 to seek the issue of continuous exemption of 232 tariffs on the North American aluminum industry.

According to the US, the imports of primary aluminum from Canada have surged; however, the import volume was in line with the historical record and basic market condition, according to the official statistics.

The companies involved in this event included Alcoa, Novelis, Kenlian Aluminum, Rio Tinto, Hydro Extrusion North America, Kaiser Aluminum, Tri-Arrows Aluminum, Arconic, and so on.
