US’ hot-rolled steel bar imports fall in Dec 2021

According to the final Census Bureau data from the US Department of Commerce (USDOC), the US imported a total of around 63,600 tons of hot-rolled steel bar in December 2021, decreasing by 25% compared to the previous month but hiking by 11.5% from the same month a year ago.

Among them, the imports from Canada accounted for the largest proportion, reaching around 27,300 tons, a month-on-month decrease of 24.2% and a year-on-year growth of 10.2%. Other main import sources included Japan, France, Mexico, Brazil, and Germany, with a separate volume of around 12,000 tons, 6,500 tons, 5,000 tons, and 3,000 tons.

During the period, the import value was around US$76 million, down by 27.3% month on month and rising by 54.4% year on year.
