The US Department of Commerce has reportedly commenced an anti-dumping investigation into aluminium extrusion imports from 15 countries and territories, including Vietnam. The investigation followed a petition filed by the US Aluminium Extruders Coalition and the US Steel, Paper and Forestry, Rubber, Manufacturing, Energy, Allied Industrial and Service Workers International Union with the Department of Commerce on October 4, said the Trade Remedies Authority of Vietnam.
The petitioners claimed that Vietnam was the fourth biggest exporter to the US, accounting for 7.6 per cent of the United States total imports from 15 countries and territories in 2022. Mexico was the higher exporter, followed by Colombia and China.

Fourteen Vietnamese companies were accused of dumping aluminium extrusions at an alleged margin of 41.84 per cent.

The US considers Vietnam a country with a non-market economy and, therefore, will use alternative value from a third country to calculate its dumping margin. The petitioners have proposed the use of Indonesia as the third country since it has the same level of economic development like Vietnam, with a significant number of aluminium extrusion manufacturers.
