US’ steel coils imports drop in Jan

According to the preliminary Census Bureau data from the US Department of Commerce (USDOC), the US imported around 74,000 tons of steel coils in January, dropping by 12.2% compared to the previous month and also sliding by 3.3% from the same month a year ago.

Among them, the imports from Canada accounted for the largest proportion, totaling roughly 66,000 tons, a month-on-month increase of 36.5% and a year-on-year decrease of 5.5%. Other import sources included South Korea (around 6,900 tons) and Japan (around 1,200 tons).

The import value was roughly US$52 million during the period, down by 0.95% month on month while rising by 18.1% year on year.
