US’ steel import permit applications decrease in Feb

According to the most recent Steel Import Monitoring and Analysis (SIMA) data from the US Commerce Department, in February, the US’ steel import permit applications were around 2.39 million net tons (NT), decreasing by 3.1% month on month.

Among them, import permit tonnage for finished steel totaled around 1.76 million, decreasing by 7.9% compared to the preliminary imports in January. Canada had the most significant steel import permit applications, with 522,000 NT, followed by Brazil (445,000 NT), Mexico (322,000 NT), South Korea (212,000 NT) and Japan (96,000 NT).
