Brazi’s iron ore miner Vale and steel producer Sinobras have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to build a steel mill in Maraba, state of Pará in northern Brazil, to produce billets.

The new plant will receive pig iron from the Tecnored plant that Vale is currently building in the same city.

The Tecnored technology is a low-carbon pig iron process that used energy such as biomass and emitted less carbon dioxide than traditional coal and coke ironmaking processes.

The new steel mill was expected to be completed by Sinobras in 2023.
