After failing to have a result for the talks with management about better working conditions and increased salary last Wednesday (May 25), workers at Compagnie des Bauxites de Dian-Dian (COBAD), Rusal's Guinea subsidiary, launched a strike the next day. Rusal didn’t give an immediate response regarding this issue, and it was unsure whether COBAD is still in production.

Guinea is not only the second-largest bauxite producer in the world but also a major bauxite supplier to China. According to statistics, Guinea produced 83 million tons of bauxite in 2021, of which COBAD contributed 3.59 million tons.
