World Crude Steel Output Down 7% in June

The global crude steel production dropped significantly by 7.0% during the month of June this year, says the latest production data published by the World Steel Association (worldsteel). This is upon year-on-year comparison of production data by 64 countries reporting to the organization.

The global crude steel production totalled 148.295 million tonnes (Mt) during the month, as compared with 159.541 Mt in June last year.

The year-to-date crude steel production by world countries during the initial six-month period of the year was down by 6% at 873.134 Mt. The production had totalled 928.425 Mt in Jan-June ’20.

The North American crude steel output totalled 6.651 Mt, significantly down by 32.2% when matched with 9.814 Mt in June last year. The U.S. regional output growth registered sharp decline by 34.5%. Meantime, South American output too declined by 30.4% year-on-year to total 2.561 Mt. All countries in the region recorded reduced output.
