Africa & Asia’s alumina production rebounds in Oct’23 to 1.17 Mt but still stands 1% lower Y-o-Y

According to the International Aluminium Institute data, alumina production in Africa & Asia (ex-China) during October 2023 stood at 1.17 million tonnes, reflecting a rise of 2.63 per cent month-on-month.

The output rebounded in the said month to return to the production volume in August. In September, Africa & Asia’s alumina production stood at 1.14 million tonnes versus 1.17 million tonnes in the previous month.

The production decline in September was a continuation as alumina output in August also decreased by 0.85 per cent from 1.18 million tonnes.

On a year-on-year calculation, alumina production in Africa & Asia (ex-China) during October 2023 was also 0.85 per cent down from 1.18 million tonnes.

In the first ten months of 2023, alumina production in Africa & Asia (ex-China) amounted to 11.25 million tonnes – 2.43 per cent less than 11.53 million tonnes during the corresponding period of the previous year.

The daily average alumina production in Africa & Asia during October 2023 was 37,800 tonnes, down by 1.05 per cent from 38,200 tonnes despite the increase in monthly output.

The world’s alumina production from January to October 2023 totalled 118.2 million tonnes, slightly down by 0.50 per cent from 118.8 million tonnes a year ago.
