Alcoa Corp., a leading aluminum producer in the US, is accelerating the clean energy transition at its Juruti bauxite mine in the state of Pará, Brazil.

The company was expected to soon start a project to convert fossil fuel generation to the grid-connected power supply, which was scheduled to complete in 2026 and will then reduce greenhouse gas emissions by around 35% and lower the plant’s energy costs by roughly 40% in the future.

Alcoa aimed to cut scope 1 and 2 greenhouse gas emissions by 30% by 2025 and 50% by 2030 and to achieve net-zero greenhouse gas emissions across its global operations by 2050.
