Australia wants to increase iron ore sales to India to decrease reliance on China

Australian prime minister, Australian mining firms BHP and Fortescue, and UK-Australian firm Rio Tinto visited India. One of the visited purposes was to look for increasing Australian iron ore sales to India. In the past, iron ore sales from Australia to India were hard to compete with Indian domestic supplies and other producing countries.

The Australian Bureau of Statistics data showed no Australian iron ore exports to India in 2022 compared to about 411,000 tons in 2021. China was the main Australian iron ore export country in 2022, but China kept looking for new alternative resources.
