Brazil produces 2.2% less crude steel in first 5 months of 2022

According to the latest data, the Brazilian production of crude steel in this May was 3 million tons, a fall of 4.9% compared to the same month of the previous year.

In the same month, domestic sales fell by 13.4% year on year to 1.8 million tons, while apparent steel consumption fell by 15.7% on the same comparison basis to 2.1 million tons.

In the first five months of 2022, Brazilian crude steel production was 14.5 million tons, representing a drop of 2.2% compared to the same period of the previous year.

During the period, domestic sales fell by 14.7% to 8.5 million tons, while apparent steel consumption fell by 14.6% to 9.8 million tons.
