The crude steel production of the biggest steel producer in Latin America increased by 24.0% in the first half of 2021 compared to the same period of the previous year, while national sales grew by 43.9%. The exports decreased by 13.7% and imports increased by 140.6% on the same basis of comparison.

The positive numbers for the first half of the year and the outlook that steel demand will remain hot during the second half led the IABr to revise its projections for 2021.

It was expected that in 2021 the crude steel production to grow by 14%, national sales to increase by 18.5%, and apparent steel consumption to increase by 24.1%, higher than the previous estimate when they were 11.3%, 12.9%, and 15%, respectively.
