According to data from the Brazilian Stainless Steel Association (ABINOX), the country's stainless steel production totaled 276,000 tons in 2020, the lowest level in 10 years.

However, global stainless steel production reached 50.9 million tons in 2020, the best result since 2010 except for the 52.2 million tons in 2019.

In 2021, stainless steel production has shown signs of recovery, but the variations continue. As revealed by Aprodinox (Brazilian Association of Stainless Steel Processors and Distributor) in an open letter, the stainless steelmakers in the country have already started with price adjustments in June for flat stainless steel products, while new increases for next month are on a discussion.

On the other hand, stainless steel imports went from 113,000 tons in 2019 to 143,000 tons in 2020, the highest level in 10 years. In addition to the mills' difficulties to replace this material, the rise in the US dollar also contributed to this search in the international market.
