Brazil’s crude steel production rises in May

According to Brazil Steel Institute (Instituto Aço Brasil, IABr), Brazil produced 3.1 million tons of crude steel in May this year, rising by 40.1% compared to the same month a year ago. The country’s domestic steel sales volumes during the period had a year-on-year increase of nearly 74% to 2.1 million tons, and the apparent steel consumption was 2.5 million tons, up by 83% year on year.

In the first five months of this year, Brazil’s crude steel production amounted to nearly 15 million tons, hiking by 20.3% from the same period a year earlier. The domestic steel sales volumes during the reporting period had a year-on-year hike of 46.4% to 10 million tons, and the apparent steel consumption hiked by 50.7% year on year to 11.5 million tons.
