Chile’s apparent steel consumption decreases in Jan-Sep

According to statistics from the Chilean Steel Institute (ICHA), in the first nine months of this year, Chile’s apparent steel consumption dropped by 23.4% year on year to nearly 1.83 million tons.

Meanwhile, the apparent consumption of long products decreased by 24% year on year to 861,000 tons, which hit a record low since 2018. The flat product’s apparent consumption went down by 22.9% from the same period a year ago to 964,000 tons.

ICHA forecasted that Chile’s apparent steel consumption in 2022 might reach 2.42 million tons, falling by 26.3% year on year.
