According to statistics, China’s alumina exports totaled 190,000 tons in May, making the total export volume reach 380,000 tons, nearly 1,000% higher than the volume in 2021. The surge was mainly due to Russia shifting its procurement sources of alumina to China.

Earlier this year, Australia banned the exports of alumina and bauxite to Russia. In April, Rio Tinto cut Rusal's access to production and management at the joint venture alumina refinery in Queensland, whose annual production capacity is 750,000 tons.
