According to statistics, China’s imports of unwrought aluminum and products, including primary metal and unwrought, alloyed aluminum, totaled around 188,500 tons in May this year, up by 7.5% compared to the previous month while falling by 16.4% from the same month a year ago. The year-on-year drop was mainly due to high overseas prices and weaker consumption in the domestic market.

China’s monthly aluminum imports have been lower than 200,000 tons so far this year due to a closed arbitrage window for cheaper overseas metal and weakened demand from downstream buyers caused by the COVID-19 prevention blockage.
