China’s aluminum imports hit historical high in 2021

According to statistics from the General Administration of Customs of China, the country’s aluminum imports totaled around 243,700 tons in December 2021, falling by 39% and 8.2% month on month and year on year, respectively.

In the whole year of 2021, China imported a total of 3.2 million tons of unwrought aluminum, including primary aluminum and unwrought alloyed aluminum, a year-on-year increase of 18.5%, hitting a historical high.

In terms of exports, the volume reached approximately 563,000 tons in December 2021, the highest monthly level. The exports in 2021 totaled 5.62 million tons.

Last December, China’s bauxite imports had a month-on-month hike of 13.4% to 8.73 million tons. The total bauxite imports in 2021 were roughly 107.4 million tons, down by 3.8% year on year.
