China’s aluminum production & demand to grow in 2021

According to a report from S&P Global Platt, China’s aluminum production and demand were expected to grow in 2021, due to the increased demand from domestic aluminum smelters.

All interviewees thought that China’s primary aluminum production will increase this year, mainly driven by the higher profitability of aluminum smelters. Besides, they also believed that China’s aluminum smelters can get profits in the next few years as the aluminum prices will remain at a high level, although alumina prices are expected not to have a sharp increase.

However, the domestic aluminum prices in China might be under pressure due to the impact of oversupply, according to the report.

However, the impact of oversupply may put pressure on China's domestic aluminum prices.
