China’s crude stainless steel production grows in H1 2024

According to statistics from the Stainless Steel Branch of China Iron and Steel Association, China’s crude stainless steel production amounted to around 18.8 million tons in the first half of 2024, up by 5.9% compared to the same period a year ago.

Among them, the output of Cr-Ni stainless steel accounted for the largest proportion at 50.15%, totaling around 9.4 million tons, a year-on-year hike of 9.3%. Cr-Mn stainless steel output accounted for 29.94%, totaling around 5.61 million tons, slightly up by 0.6% year on year.

During the period, China’s apparent consumption of stainless steel was approximately 15.69 million tons, rising by 5.8% from the corresponding period a year earlier.
