China’s stainless steel industry outlook in probable challenges

In the first half of 2022, China’s Shanxi Taigang Stainless Steel Co., Ltd. (STSS) produced crude steel with 6.02 million tons, including 2.14 million tons of stainless steel.
STSS indicated that due to factors of safety, environment, energy consumption, and intensity dual control system, China’s coal and ferrochrome supplies were low. In terms of nickel, because Indonesia’s authority controlled nickel ore, the stainless steel industry faced challenges.
In the second half year, the effect of China’s stimulation policy is still uncertain. Steel manufacturers may face the new restructuring and integration in three to five years.
