China's stainless steel products exports to US rise by 20% in May

China's domestic exports of stainless steel to the US have fallen every year since the tariffs were imposed on China. The figure was down from 70,000 tons in 2017 to 57,000 tons in 2019, while exports of stainless steel products to the US have risen in current years, from 118,000 tons in 2017 to 132,000 tons.

Both steel products and steel exports to the US have declined year on year so far this year due to the COVID-19. However, exports of stainless steel products to the US rose by 20% in May compared to last month, while stainless steel exports still fell by 9%.

In May 2020, China's exports of stainless steel to the US were about 4,000 tons, 1.6% of total domestic exports, down by 8.8% month on month and 41.1% year on year, according to customs data.

From January to May, the total volume was about 15,000 tons, about 1.1% of the total domestic exports, down by 46.5% year on year.

In May 2020, the amount of stainless steel products exported from China to the US was about 11,000 tons, increasing by 20.4% month on month and decreasing by 11.6% year on year. From January to May, the total volume was about 42,000 tons, down by 10.9% year on year.
