Crude Steel Output by African Countries Saw Notable Decline

The African crude steel production recorded substantial decline during the month of July 2020, mainly driven by notable decline in output by South Africa.The regional output during the initial seven months of the current year too was down significantly.

The monthly crude steel production data published by the World Steel Association (worldsteel) indicates that African production fell below 1 million tonne (mt) mark, totalling only 918,000 tonnes. This is down significantly by 12.0% from the previous year. The regional steel production was 1.042 Mt in July last year.
