Recently, the European Commission revised its target to reduce carbon emissions by 55% by 2030, with a comparison of 1990 levels. However, the steel industry in the EU was faced with difficulties to produce carbon-lean steels in new ways. In order to achieve the goal of decarbonization and ensure sustainable growth, the EU had to carry out a set of solid measures.

The framework included an international level playing field, the creation of a market for green materials, the application of the EU trade defense instruments, investment in innovation and proper renewable energy sources, etc.

With regard to the low-carbon projects, the European steel industry was considered as the most advanced field. However, the success would be based on the outcome, which was to be measured with an innovative, thriving, and decarbonized steel industry in 2050.
