Global stainless crude steel production drops by 2.5% in 2020

According to statistics from the International Stainless Steel Forum (ISSF), global stainless crude steel production totaled around 50.89 million tons in 2020, dropping by 2.5% compared to the previous year.
Among them, the output in Europe was around 6.32 million tons, a year-on-year decrease of 7.1%; that in the US was around 2.14 million tons, a year-on-year reduction of 17.3%; that in China was around 30.14 million tons, a year-on-year increase of 2.5%.
The output from the Asian region (excluding China, mainly Japan, India, and Taiwan) was roughly 6.43 million tons, a year-on-year decrease of 18.6%, and that in other regions (Brazil, Russia, South Africa, South Korea, and Indonesia) was 5.86 million tons, a year-on-year increase of 3%.
Global stainless crude steel production climbed quarter by quarter after a decline in the second quarter of 2020 and hit the highest level of 2020 at roughly 14.13 million tons in the fourth quarter.
