According to statistics from Indian Stainless Steel Development Association (ISSDA), India’s stainless steel melt production was around 3.17 million tons in 2020, declining by approximately 19% compared to 2019.

Despite the production suspension from April to June 2020 due to the COVID-19 epidemic, Indian stainless steel production and demand have had a V-shape recovery since July 2020 after the government eased the national blockade.

Global stainless steel melt production dropped by 2.5% to around 50.89 million tons in 2020, of which China ranked first with around 30.14 million tons (a year-on-year increase of 2.5%), followed by India, according to data released by the International Stainless Steel Forum (ISSF).
