Japanese car manufacturer Nissan will start using green steel and aluminum sheet in its production from January 2023 as part of the company's decarbonization program.

Nissan announced on December 19 that it will begin purchasing Kobenable Steel, an environmentally friendly steel produced by Japanese steelmaker Kobelco, which uses a blast furnace with new technology to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by up to 100% of CO2 in the ironmaking process before the iron is used in the production of Kobenable steel.

In addition, Nissan will source from Kobelco an aluminum sheet made from solar-powered raw materials, which could cut greenhouse gas emissions in half compared to conventional processes.
