Norsk Hydro cooperates with Shell Energy for decarbonization at UK operations

Norwegian aluminum producer Norsk Hydro has signed a three-year contract with Shell Energy for the decarbonization at its UK plants.

Under the agreement, Shell Energy will supply 56 GWh of electricity and 144 GWh of gas to Hydro’s facilities in the UK. With the cooperation, Hydro could reduce its Scope 2 emissions in the UK by 11,000 tons of CO2 per year.

The contract also included the supply of renewable electricity from the Rhyl Flats wind farm in Wales to Hydro. The wind farm is the second largest in Wales, with an installed capacity of 90 MWh.

Hydro aims to become a more sustainable company. It already offers some of the most environmentally friendly aluminum products under the Hydro Recycled Aluminum and Hydro Low-Carbon Aluminum brands.
