Slovalco, the only primary aluminum producer in Slovakia with majority shares owned by Norsk Hydro, has decided to close the operation of primary aluminum, and the closure was scheduled to be completed by the end of September this year.

The decision was due to the unfavorable conditions and high electricity costs, and there weren’t any indications of improvement in the short term.

However, the recycling operation at the casthouse in Slovalco will be continued, and approximately 750,000 tons of recycled aluminum will be supplied to customers in the region each year.
