Rio Tinto's fourth quarter and full-year 2024 results showed steady growth in primary aluminum production and record bauxite output, despite smelter closures and energy restrictions.

The company’s aluminum production in 2024 rose by 1% year on year, driven by increased output at the Kitimat smelter, the restart of Boyne cells, and the increased ownership of Boyne and New Zealand Aluminium Smelter (NZAS). Full production at NZAS was expected in the second quarter of this year, supporting future growth.

Besides, bauxite production grew by 7% year on year to 58.7 million tons in 2024, exceeding targets due to efficient operations and rising demand. Rio Tinto planned further investments to boost processing capacity and mining efficiency.

Rio Tinto remained focused on exploring new opportunities and adapting to market changes for long-term growth.
