According to Constantin Popescu, the President of the Aluministul trade union, Romanian aluminum producer Alro Slatina is likely to completely cease operations by May 2023, mainly due to high energy prices.

Currently, only two-fifths of electrolysis units are being operated at the plant. However, because of the rising energy prices, the two units will also be closed, said trade union representatives.

Some aluminum plants in Europe have been impacted by high energy prices. A number of them have decreased their production capacity, while others have closed their plants amid the current high energy prices.
