Taiwan’s stainless steel wire rod imports & exports fall in 2021

According to statistics from Taiwan Customs, Taiwan imported 1,211 tons of stainless steel wire rods in December 2021, reducing by 34.5% compared to the previous month. Among them, the top three import sources were South Korea (622 tons, a month-on-month increase of 7.05%), Japan (221 tons, a month-on-month decrease of 79.2%), and India (170 tons, a month-on-month hike of 900%).

In 2021, Taiwan’s stainless steel wire rod imports amounted to 20,086 tons, a decrease of 6.6% compared to 2020. Japan was the major source, with nearly 10,000 tons, a year-on-year reduction of 10.8%.

In terms of exports, Taiwan exported a total of 11,484 tons last December, up by 33.5% month on month. Among them, the top three export destinations were South Korea (1,832 tons, a month-on-month hike of 38.6%), Thailand (1,518 tons, a month-on-month increase of 15.2%), and Vietnam (1,261 tons, a month-on-month growth of 101.4%).

Taiwan’s stainless steel wire rod import volume was 112,207 tons in 2021, 3.8% lower than the previous year. South Korea was the main buyer, with around 21,000 tons, a year-on-year increase of 2.8%.
