US’ steel coils imports drop in Aug

According to the preliminary Census Bureau data from the US Department of Commerce (USDOC), the US imported around 88,000 tons of steel coils in August this year, falling by 20% compared to the previous month and by 34% from the same month a year ago.

Among them, the imports from Canada accounted for the largest proportion, totaling roughly 47,600 tons, a month-on-month decrease of 20.6% and a year-on-year drop of 22.9%. Other major import sources included Mexico (around 11,000 tons), the Netherlands (around 8,400 tons), and France (around 6,200 tons).

During the period, the import value was approximately US$86 million, down by 22% month on month and by 44.7% year on year.
